Men's Health Week
Men's Health Week runs from 10th June to 16th June 2019 and the focus for this year will be men's health by numbers.
Men's Health Forum are looking at the key numbers that men need to know about their own health, including:
- 37 - a waist size of 37 inches or above puts you at increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer
- 14 - maximum 14 units of alcohol a week
- 10 cigarette smokers die 10 years younger on average than non-smokers
- 3 out of 4 suicides are by men
One man in five dies before he is old enough to retire. Together, by knowing our numbers, we can change this statistic.
Our Wellbeing Advisor, Tyler, recently visited the predominantly male-orientated Cedar Garage in Worthing to check in with their ongoing process of improving their general wellbeing. Tyler reached out to them about 2 months ago to see how he could help support the team there and carried out Wellbeing MOTs. These are FREE wellbeing checks that evealuate a person's hydration levels, emotional health, activity levels, lifestyle impacts and healthy weight. See our MOTs page for further info and details on how to book in for yours.
It's tough for men to ask for help but if you don't ask when you need it, things generally get worse. So let's get talking about men's health and wellbeing this Men's Health Week.
